- Below are the point values assigned for grades at UT Austin and their scoring in relation to a 2.00 GPA for Engineering Scoring.
- The point value is then multiplied by number of credit hours per course.
- To determine the engineering scoring, calculate the point value first for classes in the major, then for all Other Technical Courses (OTC). OTC classes are all math and science courses, and all engineering courses taken outside of the students department, that count toward the degree. Prerequisite courses and supplemental instruction, such as M 305G, and GE courses, do not count in the OTC calculation.
- Add these two values to determine the overall score for Required Technical Courses (RTC).
- If the classes in the major or the total of RTC's is below 2.00, there will be a negative number and the student is on engineering (formerly academic) probation. If the negative number is only in the major, the student must have completed a minimum of six hours in the major to be on probation.
