The Cockrell School of Engineering 14 Hour Rule has been eliminated, effective immediately. Please note that a normal course load for undergraduates in the Cockrell School is fifteen to seventeen hours a semester. The suggested arrangement of courses for each degree program is based on this load. Students are encouraged to proactively take charge of course selection and meet regularly with their academic advisors to ensure timely progress toward degree completion.
Full-Time and Half-Time Enrollment
A student’s enrollment status is determined by the number of credit hours for
which the student is enrolled in-residence at the university in a semester.
University Extension coursework taken in the classroom is included in the total
along with in-residence coursework.
Full-time requires a student to be enrolled in 12 hours of in-residence
coursework.
Half-time requires a student to be enrolled in 6 hours of in-residence
coursework.
A student is also considered to be enrolled full time if he or she is enrolled in a cooperative engineering course, is taking a reduced course load because of a documented disability, or is enrolled in a specific course that carries no hours of credit. An undergraduate enrolled in at least six hours of coursework in his or her semester of graduation may also be considered full time; the student’s dean must submit a request to the Office of the Registrar that the student’s enrollment status be changed from half time to full time.
