Probation

Engineering students are subject to engineering probation from the Cockrell School of Engineering and scholastic probation from the University.

Students on probation should review the major sequence and internal transfer policies as probationary status may also impact these areas.

Students who are on engineering probation are required to complete an Online Probation Module and meet with their designated advisor.  To determine who your designated advisor is and what type of probation you are on, go to UT Direct and view your probation advising secure academic note (SAN).

Engineering Probation and Dismissal (engineering) – Students may view their engineering probation status on their Personal Probation Worksheet. A student is placed on engineering probation under the following circumstances:

  1. If the student’s grade point average in the major area of study courses taken in residence falls below a 2.00.

  2. If the student’s grade point average in required technical courses taken in residence falls below a 2.00.

No information on academic (engineering) status appears on the grade report sent to the student. The student is notified by SAO as to individual engineering probation status.
