A Study Abroad
Financial Aid Information

Studying abroad can be expensive, but it can also cost less than spending a semester at UT. When choosing a program, be sure to take your financial situation into consideration. Many countries have a lower cost of living than Austin, many have a much greater cost of living. Talk to the IEE staff if you are unsure about the cost of living for the program that interests you. The CGEO Office has a helpful interactive budget calculator that can help you plan ahead.

There are various scholarship options for engineering students interested in studying arboad.

Keep up to date on all scholarship information by joining the International Engineering Education list serve. To join this list send an email to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu with Subscribe iep-student-interest FIRSTNAME LASTNAME in the body of the email. For example, I would send an email to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu with subscribe Laurie Berman in the email. Do not put a subject in the email.

For more scholarship information please see the CGEO scholarship listings. All students are encouraged to apply for the IEFS scholarship, but there may be other scholarships listed that would pertain to you as well. http://www.utexas.edu/student/abroad/funding/ut_scholarships.html.

There are also scholarships available through the Engineering Scholarship Office. There are general scholarships as well as international specific engineering scholarships. Deadlines for these scholarships vary.

For focus semester programs only:

Please remember that semester programs are exchange programs. This means that you pay regular UT tuition and fees to participate in these programs. The spring semester in Toulouse, France is our only semester program that has a $1000 nonrefundable program deposit.

For the Maymester program:

The course registration for the Maymester program is included in the flat rate tuition for the spring semester. There is a program fee for this program which covers housing, some meals, health insurance, administrative costs and cell phones. Students are encouraged to apply to the IEFS and COOP Goes scholarships for the Maymester program. See the above link for more information on the IEFS and other scholarships.

For summer schools:

Students ar encouraged to apply to the scholarships found on http://www.utexas.edu/student/abroad/funding/ut_scholarships.html.

Please do not make funding a reason why you do not go abroad.

General Scholarship Resources:

Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS):

There are financial aid options for students intersted in studying abroad. To read detailed information about financial aid and study abroad, review the CGEO website on financial aid. For summer and maymester programs, students must have an alternative means of paying program deposits, purchasing plane tickets, and meeting other pre-program expenses (passports, visas, etc.) because it can take awhile to receive your financial aid.
