Spring or Fall Semester in Singapore

You can participate in a fall or spring semester at National University of Singapore in Singapore. You have the option to choose courses from an approved list and take a language course (at any level) and/or a history/culture course. If courses that you need to stay within your schedule are not on the list please see Laurie for the course approval procedure. All courses will be taught in English. Students will pay UT tuition and fees for equivalent courses and live on-campus in dormitories. The National University of Singapore has inforamtion available for incoming exchange students that you should review before appying. If you are interested in applying to this program, fill out a pre-application. Your application will be screened and you will be notified of the application procedure.

Spring or Fall Semester in Melbourne, Australia

You can spend a semester at the University of Melbourne in beautiful Australia. There are pre-approved courses for the program. If additional courses are needed, then you should contact the IEE Office for more information. Students pay UT tuition and fees and live on-campus is dormitories or colleges. If you are interested in applying to this program, fill out a pre-application. The University of Melbourne has a website for incoming exchange students that you should review to learn more about the University and city. Your application will be screened and you will be notified of the application procedure. Please remember that we have limited slots available for this program. You should apply by the March 1st deadline to ensure there will be space available.

Fall or Spring Semester in Perth, Australia

Spend a semester in the beautiful city of Perth and attend the University of Western Australia.  There are pre-approved courses for the program. If additional courses are needed students should contact the IEE Office. You will pay UT tuition and fees and live on-campus in dormitories. The University of Western Australia has a website specifically for incoming exchange students. You should review this website to learn more about UWA and life in Perth. If you are interested in applying to this program, fill out a pre-application. Your application will be screened and you will be notified of the application procedure.

 

Spring Semester in Toulouse, France for Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical and Aerospace Engineering students

The Institut National des Sciences Appliques de Toulouse (INSA-Toulouse) is organizing a spring semester in English for engineering students. This program is a package program, meaning that the courses offered are the only ones offered in English. This helps you to plan your semester abroad in advance. Four courses at the junior level in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering will be offered. Students will pay UT tuition and fees for equivalent courses as well as a program fee and live on-campus in dormitories. This program fills up quickly. If you are interested in applying to this program, fill out a pre-application. Your application will be screened and you will be notified of the application procedure.

Spring or Fall Semester in Monterrey, Mexico

Students can participate in a fall or spring semester at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. You can choose courses from an approved list as well as take Spanish language courses (at any level) and/or a Mexican history/culture course. Courses will be taught in English and Spanish. Students should take note of the language of instruction of the courses before registering. You pay UT tuition and fees for equivalent courses and live on-campus in dormitories. Campus Monterrey had a website dedicated to incoming exchange students that you should review. Students can also participate in certificate programs while in Mexico. Some examples of certificate programs include International Business and Environmental and Sustalinable Development. If you are interested in applying to this program, fill out a pre-application. Your application will be screened and you will be notified of the application procedure.

Spring or Fall Semester in Edinburgh, Scotland

This new semester focus program will started in the spring semester of 2009. You can spend the fall or spring semester at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Students can choose from a list of pre-approved courses or locate courses that they wish to take on their own. Students who participate in this program must take 3/4 of their courses within engineering in Edinburgh. The University has a website dedicated to incoming exchange students that you should review before applying. If you are interested in learning more about this program contact the IEE office. This program is very popular and does fill up, students are encouraged to apply by the priority deadlines.

Spring semester in South Korea (ECE students only)

Electrical and Computer Engineering students can spend a semster studying at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea. This unique program combines a spring semseter exchange program with a paid international summer internship at Samsung. This program was launched in the spring of 2009. Students live on-campus in dorms and take classes in English. Intersted students should contact the IEE Office regarding this program and fill out a pre-application.

Spring Semester in The Netherlands (ASE and PGE)

This program is currently open to PGE and ASE students only. You can spend a semester studying a the Technical University of Delft in Holland. All the courses are taught in English for these departments only. You will live in apartments or dorms. Typically PGE students are in their senior year when they participate in this program, ASE students can range from sophomore to senior years. TU Delft had a website dedicated to incoming exchange students that you should review. If you are interested in applying for this program, please fill out a pre-application.

Spring Semester in Sweden (ME only)

Students can spend the spring semester studying Sustainable and Renewable Engery Technology while in Stockholm, Sweden. Mechanical Engineering students can participte in this unique program and take masters level courses. Interested students should visit the KTH University website for exchange students and the program as well as meet with the IEE staff to learn about course equivalencies.

Maymester in Cambridge, England

This four-week program is one of the most popular BME Maymesters. Professor Diller teaches BME 353- Transport Phenomena in Living Systems. Students pay a program fee, travel costs and meals. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is needed for this program and the deadline to apply is November 1st.

Non-engineering Maymesters

There are Maymesters that are available through other colleges that students may still with to participate in. An example of these programs are BIO 337 on Lizard Island in Australia or GOV 312 in Rome, Italy. Please see the Study Abroad Maymester website for more information on these programs.

UT Study Abroad Office

Students who are interested in studying abroad in countries that the IEE does not have programs with can still go abroad. You will have to go through the UT Study Abroad Office to go abroad. If you would like to take engineering credit, you are responsible for working with your faculty advisor. The Study Abroad Office offers programs for a semester, maymester, summer or year.

Engineering Projects for Underserved Communities

The Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering are offering a two course sequence for students to work on international and domestic projects that will directly benefit underserved communities. The first course will be offered in the fall semester of 2009 and is open to all majors. Projects will be multidisciplinary including mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical and biomedical engineering. Projects are currently being pursued in Texas, Panama and Ghana.
