Lois K. Folger is an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry and a leader in her community. She is the founder and president of Folger Energy LLC, an independent oil and gas company with non-operated properties.

Folger, who is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas, received her bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering in 1984 from the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Before returning to Texas Engineering to earn her master’s degree in petroleum engineering in 1995, she received her MBA from UT Permian Basin in 1988.

Folger started her career as a field engineer with Texaco in Notrees, Texas, and later worked in the Odessa and Midland offices. During her 13-year career with Texaco, Folger worked in roles including reservoir engineer, evaluation engineer, production engineer and enhanced oil recovery project engineer.

After several years working with successful startup companies, Folger decided to start her own company — Folger Energy LLC — in 2004 to generate prospects for carried oil and gas interests.

Among her honors and distinctions, Folger has received the Texas Society of Professional Engineers’ Young Engineer of the Year Award, the Cockrell School’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award and the Permian Basin Girl Scout Woman of Distinction Award. She also received the UT Austin Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.

Folger is active in numerous civic endeavors. She currently serves on the Cockrell School’s Engineering Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the University of St. Thomas. She has previously held leadership roles with the Society of Petroleum Engineers International, The University of Texas System Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Her community work includes the Junior League of Midland, United Way of Midland, Girl Scouts of America and the Midland Symphony Guild.

Folger and her husband Richard (B.B.A. Petroleum and Land Management and Finance 1981, B.S. PE 1984), a past recipient of the Cockrell School’s Distinguished Engineering Graduate Award, reside in Midland, Texas. They have two married daughters, Katharine and Christine, and one granddaughter.
