Brett Paulson is vice president of sales at Ketra Inc., a startup working on innovative LED lighting products in Austin.

Paulson holds an MBA from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to joining Ketra, Paulson was co-founder and chief executive officer of Naratte Inc., which built Zoosh, a software enabling millions of phones to make close, near-field connections. At Naratte, Paulson focused on product strategy and business development using Zoosh to build vertical solutions for the payment, loyalty and ticketing markets. These efforts led to revenue-producing commercial agreements with companies around the world. Paulson was granted several patents for his innovative work at Naratte. In late 2012, Naratte was acquired by Verifone, which now offers Zoosh.

Before founding Naratte, Paulson managed sales at Texas Instruments for large wireless customers including Danger — maker of the T-Mobile Sidekick — and Palm. He successfully led efforts to convert these customers’ core processor and wireless businesses to Texas Instruments, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue per year. Paulson began his career designing semiconductors and writing firmware for several startups. He also spent time in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program. Additionally, Paulson has advised several successful startups, including TagArray, which was recently acquired by Maxim Integrated Products.

He serves on both the Cockrell School’s Silicon Valley Engineering Advisory Council and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Council. He recently returned to Austin with his wife, son and twin daughters after spending 10 years in Silicon Valley.
