Engineering Graduate Nominating Information
Description of the Distinguished Graduate Award
The highest honor the Cockrell School of Engineering can bestow on one of its own is the title "Distinguished Engineering Graduate." This is a graduate who has presented him or herself to the world as consummate professional and dedicated engineer. An individual may be nominated who is a University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering graduate, is living at the time of selection, and has accomplished one or more of the following:
- Made distinguished contributions to the theory and practice of engineering or has demonstrated major accomplishments or guidance in emerging fields of engineering technology
- Managed or directed an organization that has made noteworthy national or international contributions in design, construction, production, manufacturing or service delivery through the application of engineering principles
- Contributed truly exceptional service to his or her community, the profession, and/or the public
- Shown strong interest in the Cockrell School of Engineering via a major contribution of time, money or equipment for the development of engineering programs
- Has proved to be an exceptional role model to and provided encouragement for current or prospective engineering students
Active members of the Engineering Advisory Board shall not be considered, but senior active members may be nominated. This ceremony is held annually in December.
Description of the Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate Award
The School also gives an Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate Award. This award is for an engineering graduate who is under the age of 40. The same criteria for the Distinguished Engineering Graduate Award is considered, but not necessarily on the same magnitude. This ceremony is held annually in May.
