UT group to bicycle from Austin to Alaska for cancer research
Months of early morning practices and physical training will soon pay off for
members of Texas 4000 for Cancer. This summer they will begin a trek to
Anchorage, Alaska, for the benefit of cancer awareness and research.
Electrical engineering senior
receives $20,000 University Co-op/George Mitchell award
Brian E. Hardin, electrical engineering senior at the College of Engineering, was nominated by Dr. Anthony Ambler for creating a sophisticated computer program, which generates unusual shapes for solar cells and maximizes their ability to collect light on a smaller space. Brian’s project, Non-tracking Solar Concentrator Model, has long-range implications for the viability of solar power. A patent for his ideas has been filed by Oxford University.

Lower-limb amputees may soon be walking more easily, thanks to new studies of
prosthetics by Dr. Rick Neptune, a mechanical engineering assistant professor at
The University of Texas at Austin.
Li Shi receives $300,000 grant to further work on nanowire cooling
Li Shi, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering, received a Young
Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research.
Texas and SEMATECH Launch Advanced Materials Research Center in Austin to Preserve Technology Leadership and Pave Way for Tomorrow’s Employers
The State of Texas and SEMATECH announce the signing of an agreement to launch the Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC) with the University of Texas (UT) System and other Texas universities to investigate promising new semiconductor technologies and help ensure the state’s high-tech future.
