Protein discovered by UT Engineers holds promise for antibiotic research
A group of researchers at The University of Texas at Austin and Stanford University has isolated a protein whose effect on RNA in cells could lead to the isolation of new antibiotics. Dr. George Georgiou, professor of chemical engineering and biomedical engineering, and his collaborators reports on the new protein, called RraA, in the Sept. 5 issue of the journal Cell.

Engineering professor to study travel behavior in aftermath of events similar to 9/11
Chandra Bhat, an associate professor of civil engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded an 18-month, $230,190 grant from the National Science Foundation to study how people change their inter-city and urban travel behavior in the aftermath of an extreme event, such as the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

The University of Texas at Austin, UT College of Engineering and Dean Ben Streetman are happy to serve as the academic host for the 15th Anniversary Hispanic Engineers National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC). This celebration, help October 16-18, will bring corporate, government, military and academic leaders to Austin to meet with more that 1,000 engineering and science college students from across the nation.
