Prof. Neal E. Armstrong's General Research Interests
Dr. Armstrong's research interests continue to be in the areas of:
water quality analysis (problem identification, analysis, and solution);
water quality modeling (development, testing, and application of simple
and complex water quality models); water quality policy (analysis of policy
implications of legislation, regulations, and regulation implementation);
and water pollution ecology (biological effects of waste discharges including
biomonitoring and bioassessment). Recent research concerned: eutrophication
analysis in rivers and lakes in Central Texas; impacts of City of Austin
wastewater discharges on water quality and biota of the Colorado River;
development of a water quality management planning framework to assess
impacts of activities above and below the City of Austin on its water related
activities; development of a data set inventory, point source load estimates,
and spatial and temporal trends in water and sediment quality in Galveston
Bay, Texas; development of a data set inventory for sediment quality data
in harbors and ports in Texas and Louisiana; development of a mathematical
model for salinity intrusion in estuaries; modeling of toxic materials
in Galveston Bay; and biological environments inventories for Sabine Lake,
Galveston Bay system, Corpus Christi Bay system, and lower Laguna Madre.
Current research is focusing on the status and trends of water and sediment
quality and organism contamination in the Corpus Christi Bay system; point
source loading of contaminants into the Corpus Christ Bay system; and mitigation
of mercury contamination in the Lavaca Bay superfund site.
