|
What we are Founded in 2003 by a group of 16 students, Beta Mu Epsilon
serves as the honor society for the Biomedical Engineering department at
the University of Texas at Austin. With goals to promote leadership,
mentorship, and achievement, the non-profit organization serves to
develop our highly qualified members both in terms of their academics
and their character.
Being a member of Beta Mu Epsilon signifies that one has a GPA of 3.5 or above, is in Major Sequence, is committed to promoting BME in the community through acts of service and outreach, and most importantly, has demonstrated extraordinary character. What we do The purpose of our organization is twofold: first, to encourage students to think their personal future and the future of the biomedical industry, and second, to students to think about the legacy they are leaving. We want, with our actions, to make our school and our community better places, and thereby encourage career and character development. How to become a
member Students who are undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering Department are given a chance to apply, given that their GPA is greater than 3.5 and they are already in their Major Sequence. The application is free, but upon the acceptance to the society student will have to pay a one time membership fee of $50. Invitations for application are extended in the fall semester based on transcripts from the previous spring. Those members accepted are given conditional status and must attend all official meetings and complete service and social requirements set by the society, as well as pay the one time lifetime fee for organization dues and submit a resume. After one semester, conditional members are considered for active membership by secret ballot vote by existing active members, including officers. Active members are required to attend 3/5 general meetings, participate in service and social events, and submit a current resume. Should the cumulative GPA of an active member fall below 3.5, the articles governing probation, as outlined in the constitution, come into effect. For more details concerning Beta Mu Epsilon's requirements for membership, please review the constitution.
