On October 17, 2008, The University of Texas at Austin launched "We Change People. They Change the World," a $3 billion capital campaign to advance UT Austin as the best public university in the United States. My name is Jim Scott. As Chair of the Engineering Advisory Board of the Cockrell School of Engineering, I am confident that engineering's $350M goal, within the university's overall goal, will help position us as a global center for technology innovation, education and entrepreneurship. Now, what would it mean for the citizens of Texas, the United States, and the world if the Cockrell School was a leader in these areas? Let me share with you an idea.

The world faces tremendous challenges in energy, health care and the quality of life. By raising private support to recruit and retain the best minds, to build the most collaborative facilities, and to advance our academic research programs, UT Engineering will be better focused to develop innovative solutions to these global challenges. Innovation breeds prosperity, and we see the Cockrell School as a catalyst in the success of the Texas economy, and in turn, the US position as a global technology leader.

As we enter this campaign for leadership, we invite you to become more involved and invested in the Cockrell School of Engineering. You will become a greater stakeholder in promoting prosperity and helping solve the world's greatest problems. Thank you.
