Password Policy and Tools

To access network resources in the Cockrell School of Engineering, you will need a user account in the ENGR Active Directory Domain.  This account (username and password) is intended for your exclusive use and it is your responsibility to protect it.

Passwords must adhere to the Cockrell School of Engineering Password requirements. You will be required to change your password at the beginning of each academic year, but to maintain the security of your account; we suggest that you change your password more frequently.

Password rules

How to select a password

You can be as creative as you wish with your password. You should NOT simply pick a word, capitalize the first letter and tack a number on the end (ex: Sesame1 is a poor password). You should instead think of a phrase that you can change significantly. The more unique and personal the meaning of the phrase is to you, the better.

The best passwords are long but easily remembered (often referred to as passphrases).  Using an odd sentence (including punctuation) with misspellings often creates a strong password.
