Connecting Your iPhone to the Engineering Exchange Server

These instructions are for configuring iPhone OS 1.0 against the ENGR Exchange server for email using an IMAP SSL connection. Only your email is synced via this configuration, contacts and calendar can be configured via your iTunes account.

Requirements

  1. Your ENGR Exchange username
  2. Your ENGR Exchange alias. This can be found in the Global Address Book.
    • Go to the Tools->Address Book
    • Find yourself
    • Right-click and select your entry and select Properties
    • In the General tab, find the field Alias
  3. You need a Basic UT mailbox (UMBS) from ITS
  4. Your UMBS username. If your address is xyz@mail.utexas.edu, xyz is your UMBS username.
  5. Your UMBS password
    • If you don’t know what this is, you will need to go to the UMBS maintenance page: https://mail.utexas.edu
    • Login with your UT EID
    • Select the Password button to reset your password

Configuration

  1. If this is the first account you’re setting up on iPhone, tap Mail. Otherwise, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
  2. Use the following settings:
    • Account Type: Other
    • Server Type: Exchange
    • Name: Firstname Lastname
    • Address: UMBS username@mail.utexas.edu (This should be the address that you want as the reply-to address.)
    • Description: ENGR Exchange Mailbox (or anything you wish)
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.engr.utexas.edu
    • Incoming Username: engr\<Your ENGR username>\<Your ENGR Alias>
    • Incoming Password: ENGR Password
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.utexas.edu
    • Outgoing Username: UMBS Username
    • Outgoing Password: UMBS Password
