Have you ever needed to connect to the internet with your laptop, but haven’t been near a hotspot to connect? Your Blackberry can be used to connect your laptop to the internet. This is known as tethering with your Blackberry, and by following these instructions you will be able to connect your laptop to the internet using your BlackBerry.
NOTE: The instructions below are for those that are going to be tethering with a USB cable and not Bluetooth. If you are interested in Bluetooth tethering please contact your provider for more instructions.
Requirements
- You have a Blackberry and data account setup with your wireless provider
- The tethering plan has been added in addition to the data plan on your account
- You are working in the "Enterprise Model" using the Exchange mail server and Outlook to send/receive your email
Tethering Instructions
Blackberry tethering comes with great pain for many folks, and it appears that AT&T/Cingular has made leaps and bounds to its processes to simplify this for all.
- Install the Blackberry Desktop Manager
- Reboot
- Install the AT&T Communications Manager
- Reboot
- Attach your Blackberry to your computer using the USB cable provided with your BlackBerry
- Start the AT&T Communications Manager
- Click connect to begin tethering
- Navigate web or check email
