How do you apply to the Co-op Program?
1. Register with the ECAC
2. Attend a Co-op Information Session
3. Complete the online application, including the IDA Planner (must attend a Co-op Information Session FIRST)
4. Meet with a Co-op Counselor and turn in a copy of your ECAC resume

When should you apply?
Apply to the Co-op Program a semester or two before you want to start working.  Each year, there are two application periods, one at the beginning of the fall semester and the other early in the spring semester. 

  • Fall semester applicants may begin co-op work in the spring or summer.

  • Spring applicants may begin working in the summer or fall

Typically students apply between their sophomore and junior years.  Before you can apply, however, you MUST meet the prerequisites listed below.

Academic Prerequisites
1. At least 28 hours of basic sequence course work before applying for co-op employment, including:

  • An introductory course in your engineering discipline
  • 8 hours of Calculus (M 408C & D or M 408KL&M) and
  • 8 hours of Physics (PHY 303K & L; PHY 103M & N)

2. Maintain a minimum 2.5 overall GPA and a 2.0 major GPA
3. Transfer students must have completed one full semester of engineering at UT Austin
4. Must be an undergraduate engineering student
5. Must have at least 12 hours of degree coursework left after the final co-op term

Co-op Program Requirements

1. Two or three semesters of work with the same company

2. At least one long semester of work (Fall or Spring) but not two long semesters back-to-back (Fall and then Spring)

3. Full course load of work (at least 12 hours) in the semester following final co-op work term
