How to Make the
Most of an Externship Visit
- Research the company
beforehand
- Dress business casual
- Arrive on time
(remember, you are responsible for transportation)
- Bring your resume
- Remember the names of
those you are introduced to – jot down names or get business cards
- Bring writing
materials and take notes
- Pay attention, ask
questions, show enthusiasm, and have fun!
- Send a thank-you note
to the company contact person afterward
- If there is an
emergency (your car breaks down, you’re sick, etc.) and you are not able to
participate:

- What is a typical
entry-level assignment or level of responsibility given to an engineer at
your company?
- Do you have an
intern/co-op program? If so, what are typical assignments?
- What is a typical day
like for an engineer?
- What are possible
career paths for an engineer at your company?
