The Texas Research Experience (TREX)
program is an opportunity for successful upper division students to:
- Further enhance their academic experience with undergraduate
research
- Learn about careers in research and product development in an
academic setting
- Learn about the benefits of obtaining a graduate engineering
degree
- Use the experience to become a competitive graduate school
applicant
Selected TREX participants demonstrate exceptional academic
competence, leadership skills, independence and ingenuity, and the
ability to balance multiple responsibilities.

If selected, the TREX participant
must:

Perform 10-14 hours of
research/lab work each week

Submit monthly progress reports
-
Attend weekly meetings &
workshops
-
Enroll in a one hour course, 4pm
to 5pm, for the Fall and Spring semesters
-
Receive Satisfactory Mid-Year
Evaluation to continue in Spring 2009

Complete an abstract, report,
poster, and PowerPoint presentation
-
Submit and present a final report
in April 2009
-
Attend the EOE Excellence Awards
Banquet
-
Possibly present research findings
at a conference
In return the TREX
participant receives:
- Exposure
to industry representatives and faculty members
- Valuable
research experience
- Valuable experience in preparing papers and
presentations
- Monthly
stipend totaling $1300/semester (for two semesters)
- A competitive edge over other graduate school applicants
