Since you are confident that the human subjects proposal which you have helped author is ethically sound, briefly present it to the IRB board (teacher/classmates). Make note of the things you changed in Brandon's original proposal and why they might have been unethical to begin with.
In the style of the IRB review process, discuss the following aspects of the proposal:
- Does the use of human subjects have research relevance?
- Are there any ethical issues regarding the study's design and conduct?
- How have risks to the subjects been minimized?
- Are there any anticipated benefits for the subjects which would make their exposure to any risks reasonable?
- Is the selection of subjects fair?
- How is safety monitored?
- How is confidentiality and privacy insured?
