Set-Up Help
Volunteer Time: 9 - 11 a.m.
- Set up tables and chairs — layout provided
- Hang signs on buildings — layout provided
- Hang streamers
- Use chalk to create sidewalk art in info booth areas and in other areas
leading to the Cockrell School
- Blow up balloons and distribute to all tents and departments
- General Help as necessary
- Put volunteer snacks and drinks behind tables
- Set out programs, passports, Cockrell School of Engineering stamps, Tabloid programs,
Cockrell School Programs, Explore UT postcards, maps
Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) Hands-on Activities Volunteer
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least two (2) slots between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Set up hands-on activities and run them during Explore UT with help from TAME administrator
- Help manage traffic flow through TAME Trailblazer, hand out stickers
and materials, etc. at TAME activity trailer set up on Speedway
Department Building Greeter
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least one slot between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Help give directions; help people find rooms in assigned building; smile and greet visitors; have fun!
- Familiarize yourself with the things going on in your department's building by looking at the program
- Position yourself near the front entry to your department — preferably just inside the main door or just outside of the main door
- Greet all visitors and ask if they need help finding an activity or session (think "Wal-mart Greeter")
- Help people find their sessions and even walk them to the actual room if necessary — don’t be afraid to leave your post if you need to in order to help someone
Cockrell School Tour Guide
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least two (2) slots between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Tour our visitors, get trained on a scripted tour and have fun!
- Get trained on the set script (easy to follow with handouts)
- Tour small groups of visitors around the engineering complex
- Share your engineering experiences with our visitors and have fun!
Information Booth
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least one slot between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Help give directions; hand out programs, bookmarks, and giveaways; smile and greet visitors; have fun!
- Familiarize yourself with the things going on in the College during your volunteer time by looking at the program
- Greet all visitors and ask if they need help finding an activity or session (think "Wal-mart Greeter")
- Hand out maps, passports, College of Engineering programs, giveaways, bags, etc. to visitors
- Hand out snacks and drinks to volunteers as they need them
- Answer the walkie talkie if necessary
- May have other tasks as they come up
Runner
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least one slot between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Cart materials between engineering buildings and check-in at volunteer stations with food, brochures, etc.
- Do "rounds" to check in with department groups
Sign Carrier
Volunteer Time: Must sign up for at least one slot between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
With 1 other student, go around to other parts of campus and pass out engineering programs and point people to the engineering side of campus — Get creative! Have fun!!
- Familiarize yourself with the things going on in the College during your volunteer time by looking at the program
- Be creative and get people's attention
- Encourage people to head to engineering
- Pass out Engineering Programs
- Make people want to come our way
- Engineering is FUN!!!!
Clean-Up Help
Volunteer Time: 4:30 - 6 p.m.
- All tables and chairs and trash cans (barrels – not permanent ones) need to get back to the tent in front of ECJ/RLM — see layout description for where they are located
- Take down and throw away all signs on and in buildings — see layout for locations
- Tear down all streamers and other decorations
- All left over materials (food, programs, papers, etc.) need to get back to the WEP office
- Check with Clean-up Coordinator before you leave to make sure everything is taken care of
