1. Who will attend EXPO?
Both undergraduate and graduate engineering students looking for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions will attend EXPO.
2. Can I attend for one day only?
Yes, employers have three attendance options: they may choose to attend Tuesday Only, Wednesday Only, or Both Days. This allows for more scheduling flexibility for employers, and more employer exposure for students.
3. Do the same recruiters have to attend both days if I choose to attend both days?
No, different recruiters may come for each day. However, no more than the number of recruiters registered may be present at the career fair at any given time.
4. What is the golf tournament?
The EXPO golf tournament is a chance for students to meet with recruiters. The format is four-person scramble. It is a great networking opportunity, and lunch will be served.
5. What is the senior reception?
The EXPO senior reception is held on the Monday evening prior to the career fair. Only students with senior standing are invited to the event, and the reception is an opportunity for these students to speak with employers about full-time opportunities with the employer. The senior reception is a catered event, but not a sit-down dinner, so that students are able to speak with different recruiters. We highly encourage recruiters to wear clothing indicative of their organization for maximum visibility.
6. When does registration end?
Though registration ends officially on June 1st, the corporate capacity for EXPO is limited by the size of the Frank Erwin Center. Previously, we have filled up well before the deadline, so we highly encourage signing up as soon as registration begins on May 1st, as space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis during registration.
7. Do interviews take place during the career fair?
Though there is no rule forbidding on-the-spot interviews during the career fair, due to noise and students waiting to speak with recruiters, we do not recommend interviewing during the career fair.
8. How can I set up interviews?
Interviews and year-round recruiting efforts are coordinated through the Engineering Career Assistance Center (ECAC). Interview suites are also available, dependent upon reservation. Please contact ECAC for more information.
9. What undergraduate majors are represented at EXPO?
Aerospace, Architectural, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, Petroleum, and Geosystems Engineering.
10. Does Electrical and Computer Engineering include Computer Science?
Computer science at The University of Texas at Austin is classified under the College of Natural Science.
11. Are other majors outside of engineering present at EXPO?
Although students of other majors may be present at the fair, you should attend The College of Natural Sciences Career Fair on Monday, September 22nd in the Frank Erwin Center to recruit natural sciences students, or the McCombs School of Business Career Fair (date TBA) to recruit business students. These events are not affiliated with the Cockrell School of Engineering.
12. Do I have to stay for the whole time?
Yes, we expect all employers to stay during the specified hours of the career fair. Please keep in mind that classes are still in session and all students should have an opportunity to speak to all employers.
13. Will parking be validated?
No, we cannot validate parking. See parking information.
14. Now that I have registered for EXPO, is my spot guaranteed?
No, until we have received your signed agreement and payment, registration is not complete and your spot at EXPO is not guaranteed.
15. Can I pay with credit card?
Regardless of how payment was made in the past, only checks or money order will be accepted.
16. How should we get materials to the Frank Erwin Center?
All booth materials should be shipped to Freeman. Please see shipping for details.
17. Who should I make checks out to?
The check should be payable to: UT Austin c/o Student Engineering Council. Please note on the check that it is for EXPO 2008.
18. What does the basic registration fee include?
Registration of one booth includes a single booth at the fair for the duration chosen (Tuesday Only, Wednesday Only, or Both Days), meals for up to three recruiters (breakfast, lunch, and snacks), and attendance at the senior reception. The golf tournament fee is $75 per recruiter and is not included in the basic registration fee.
19. What does it mean if I am on the waitlist?
Because of the booth capacity of the Frank Erwin Center, we have a limited number of employers we can allow to participate in EXPO each semester. Registration for EXPO is on a first-come, first-served basis; employers who register first get precedence, and once the waitlist is started, employers that register after the waitlist has been begun are no longer guaranteed a spot in the fair. However, there are inevitably a number of spots that open up in August, and we will invite employers from the waitlist to fill these spaces at that time. If your organization is on the waitlist, please wait to be contacted by us if any openings become available. Please be patient, and we will let you know if a spot opens up. In August, be prepared to act quickly if you are notified of an opening.
20. Why did I not get the booth location preference I requested?
We are making every effort to accommodate each employer's preference for booth location in the Frank Erwin Center. Unfortunately, it is simply not possible to make arrangements that satisfy everyone's needs.
21. How many recruiters can I bring to the EXPO senior reception?
Although our registration page allows a maximum of 4 recruiters, we welcome all employers to bring as many recruiters as they wish to the senior reception; there is no limit.
