Academy of Distinguished Teachers
Since the inauguration of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers in the Spring of 1995, twenty of The University's best teachers. Nominations to the Academy are restricted to tenured faculty members who have made sustained and significant contributions to teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level. For colleges with undergraduate programs, nominees must have a distinguished undergraduate teaching record.
The Academy of Distinguished Teachers, one of the first of its type in the nation, is intended to recognize and enhance teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level. Members will be chosen on the basis of their outstanding teaching, their personal commitment to students and the learning process, and their ability to inspire and motivate students in the classroom. The academy exemplifies the University's commitment to quality teaching and brings richly deserved recognition to dedicated classroom teachers.
Academy members will serve as an advisory group to the provost on teaching excellence, and will provide institutional leadership and guidance for the distinctive undergraduate experience available in a research university environment. Also, members will organize seminars, colloquia, workshops on teaching effectiveness and new instructional technologies, and will serve as mentors for new faculty.
