Dr. Aristotle “Ari” Arapostathis earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1982, and joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year.
Dr. Arapostathis develops models and technologies to analyze and control electronic systems that are stochastic, or random systems in which past events cannot help predict future events. For example, he recently researched control techniques for systems that handle random events such as the arrival of a customer in a queue or the loss of a message packet in a communication network. In one current project for the U.S. Navy, Arapostathis is developing control techniques that would allow a ship’s power system to continue operating after sustaining damage. Dr. Arapostathis is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and holds the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation Centennial Fellowship in Electrical Engineering.
