Dr. Sanjay Banerjee earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1983. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1987 and is now the director of the Microelectronics Research Center. He won a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1987.
Dr. Banerjee researches microelectronic devices made with silicon or silicon alloys. He seeks to improve transistors, or electronic switches, to become smaller, faster and use less power, and develops semiconductor memories based on improved switches. He also studies new fabrication techniques that can develop better chips, and seeks to fully understand the manufacturing process.
Research Interests:
- Ultra-high vacuum and remote plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition
- Silicon-germanium-carbon heterostructure MOSFETs and nanostructures
- Ultra-shallow junction technology
- Semiconductor device modeling
