Dr. Seth Bank earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2006. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2007. He has received several best paper awards at national and international conferences, including one at the Electronic Materials Conference in 2004.
Dr. Bank researches electrical and optical devices made from a variety of semiconductor alloys and metal/semiconductor nano-composites. He is particularly interested in developing efficient lasers emitting in the mid-infrared range for sensors and detection. Other areas of interest include developing optoelectronic components compatible with silicon-based transistors for optical interconnects to reduce integrated circuit power dissipation. Bank is also seeking ways to make transistors operate faster.
Research interests:
- Semiconductor electronic and optoelectronic devices
- Metal/Semiconductor hetero- and nano-structures
- Silicon-based photonics
