Dr. Oguzhan Bayrak earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering and structures from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 1999. He joined the faculty of the Cockrell School of Engineering in 2000.
Dr. Bayrak researches the behavior and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures and focuses on testing full-scale structural components. He has studied the behavior of deep-beams, reinforced concrete columns, slab-column connections, pretensioned beams and bridge decks using full-scale laboratory specimens. Dr. Bayrak’s research is directed towards simplifying structural designs, and developing simpler provisions for structural design specifications based on experimental evidence in order to improve constructability and durability of bridges and buildings.
Research interests:
- Reinforced and prestressed concrete structures
- Bridge engineering
- Fiber reinforced polymers
