Dr. Michael F. Becker earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1974. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year.
Dr. Becker conducts research to understand the nature of light-matter interaction and he applies his work to various electro-optic devices and systems. He researches nanoparticles and nanomaterials, seeking to produce high-performance nanoparticles and nanomaterials of gold, silver, silicon and other materials. He is investigating applications that use the properties of nanoparticles, such as electronic interconnects, linear and nonlinear photonic materials and devices, and micro-mechanical actuators. Becker directs other work toward optical signal processing using various types of nonlinear and modulation optical devices.
Research Interests:
- Light-matter interaction
- Laser interactions with materials
- High-performance nanoparticles and nanomaterials
- Optical signal processing using nonlinear and modulation optical devices
