Dr. Robert H. Bishop earned his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Rice University in 1990. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year. Dr. Bishop is chairman of the Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Department. He is affiliated with the Center for Space Research. In 2002, he was named a University Distinguished Teaching Professor and in 2007 was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Dr. Bishop researches guidance, navigation and control of aerospace vehicles. He is a specialist in the area of planetary exploration with emphasis on spacecraft guidance, navigation and control. Bishop is currently working with NASA Johnson Space Center on techniques for achieving precision landing on the moon. He is also working with the Goddard Space Flight Center on spacecraft formation flying and lunar exploration. Bishop was twice selected a Faculty Fellow at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and as a Welliver Faculty Fellow by The Boeing Company.
