Dr. John E. Breen earned his Ph.D. in structural engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1962. He joined the faculty of the College of Engineering that same year. Dr. Breen is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the country’s highest honor for engineering professionals.
Breen develops new and innovative reinforced and prestressed concrete bridge and building systems. His research group has had a major impact on the principal design and construction standards for concrete bridges and buildings nationally and internationally. Breen has studied structural concrete, column design, reinforcement development, general structural integrity, segmental bridge design, corrosion protection and bridge aesthetics.
