Dr. Constantine Caramanis earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year. He is a member of the Wireless Communications and Networking Group.
Dr. Caramanis’s research is at the interface of optimization, control, systems theory and statistical machine learning. Central themes of his research are understanding the value of information and feedback in optimization and control as well as balancing the tradeoff between the cost of information (for example, transmitting, receiving, coding, storing, etc.) with the price of uncertainty. Caramanis has worked on applications in telecommunications, the Internet and air traffic management, where he has developed algorithms for dynamic and autonomous reconfiguration of various aspects of the air space to account for the impact of weather uncertainty.
Research interests:
- Robust and adaptive optimization and control
- Statistical learning
- Applications in telecommunications
- Applications in air traffic control
