Dr. Earnest F. Gloyna earned his doctorate in environmental and water resources engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 1953. Dr. Gloyna was elected in 1970 to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and holds similar awards from two foreign countries.
Gloyna’s teaching, research, and professional leadership involves over six decades of engineering activities. He served as a teacher, research director, and administrator at The University of Texas at Austin for 54 years, and about 18 years as Dean of the College of Engineering. He now holds the Bettie Margaret Smith Chair in Environmental Health Engineering.
Gloyna’s research encompasses a wide range of environmental issues with a current emphasis on water and wastewater treatment. Currently, he is involved in various academic advisory roles, special developmental research projects, continuing education, and national and international consulting projects.
