Dr. John Hasenbein earned his Ph.D. in Operations Research from Georgia
Institute of Technology in 1998. He joined the faculty of The University of
Texas at Austin that same year. In 2002, he won a Faculty Early Career
Development Award from the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Hasenbein’s research involves analyzing queueing network models and
applying his insights to managing complex manufacturing, telecommunication
and computer systems. His applied work has been primarily with the
semiconductor manufacturing industry. The manufacturing time (or “cycle
time”) for semiconductor wafers is typically about 10 to 12 weeks, but they
only require 2 weeks to actually process. During the remainder of this time,
the wafers are simply waiting to be processed. Hasenbein’s goal is to model
and analyze the fabrication process in order reduce the cycle time, which in
turn reduces inventory costs.
Research interests:
- Stochastic models
- Multiclass queueing networks
- Semiconductor wafer fabrication
