Dr. Chris Jablonowski earned his Ph.D. in energy, environmental and mineral
economics from Pennsylvania State University in 2002. He joined the faculty of
The University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He is the associate director of the
Energy and Earth
Resources graduate program.
Dr. Jablonowski researches econometrics (economic measurement which combines
math, statistics, and economic theory), industrial organization, value of
information and life-cycle analysis as it relates to the oil industry. His
recent empirical research has focused on well construction cost modeling and
turnkey drilling in which a contractor—not the operator—drills a well to a
specified depth and assumes all accompanying risks. He has studied upstream
health, safety and environmental performance. Jablonowski has also investigated
the value of weather forecasts, specifically hurricane forecasts, to offshore
oil and gas producers. The goal of his research is to identify and explain the
factors that influence corporate decision-making and to use this knowledge to
improve future outcomes.
Research interests:
- Applied econometrics
- Industrial organization
