Dr. Christine Julien joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2004 after earning her doctoral degree in computer science from Washington University. In 2006, Dr. Julien was the recipient of a Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

Julien’s research focuses on mobile and pervasive computing. She is developing algorithms to support communication in mobile networks because previous fixed-network algorithms do not adequately transfer to support emerging technology. She is also developing mobile computing middleware, software that coordinates the communication among mobile applications. The middleware can help mobile software react to frequent configuration changes and other changes in the software’s environment that occur as different devices communicate. Julien is also studying the use of formal models that can help determine whether mobile systems fulfill user expectations.
