Dr. Lynn Katz earned her Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the
University of Michigan in 1993. She joined the faculty of The University of
Texas at Austin in 1998. In 1996, she won a Faculty Early Career Development
Award from the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Katz’s research focuses on the fate of contaminants in natural and
engineered systems. She is interested in the physical and chemical processes
which control the rate and extent of partitioning of organic and inorganic
contaminants to soils, sediments and engineered materials. Katz studies reaction
mechanisms at mineral-water interfaces in order to develop ex-situ treatment (in
which the material to be treated is removed) and in-situ remediation (which
occurs on-site) processes for water.
Research interests:
- Organic and inorganic contaminants
- Aquatic chemistry
- Surface chemistry and interfacial phenomena
- Water treatment
