Dr. Brian Korgel received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1997. He came to The University of Texas at Austin in 1998. Korgel was awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to perform research in Spain in 2007-2008.
The work of Korgel's experimental research group focuses on using self-assembly and self-organizational strategies to create functional nanostructures that cannot be created any other way. These nanoscopic materials have characteristic length scales of about 10 to 100 units smaller than what is possible using a lithographic approach, the traditional method of wiring small electronics. Korgel's work involves the development of new synthetic methods, new analytical probes, and often a new physical understanding -- all for the purpose of creating new device technology.
Research Interests:
- Nanostructure assembly and organizational strategies
- Development of new approaches for nanoscale material synthesis
