Dr. Howard Liljestrand earned his Ph.D. in environmental engineering science from the California Institute of Technology in 1980. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year.
His research focuses on environmental chemistry in air, aquatic systems, and hazardous materials. His current work traces pollutant releases and measures and models the resulting chemical conversion and transport processes in environmental systems. Specific projects involve studies of organic pollutants, remediation of polluted aquifers, and modeling of air pollution at contaminated sites. Dr. Liljestrand also studies oxidation of volatile organics and models the chemical transformations of pollutants.
Research Interests:
- Environmental chemistry
- Acid deposition
- Aquifer remediation
- Endocrine disrupter chemicals
- Emission fluxes
