Dr. Tracy McMillan earned her Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from the University of California, Irvine in 2003. She joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2004.
Dr. McMillan is an urban planner who researches how different modes of transportation, such as walking, bicycling and automobiles, can affect the health of children and adults. One set of projects seeks to understand the factors that influence children’s travel, particularly the school trip, and how the design and location of schools in our communities may affect health. Two other research projects seek to determine the best ways to promote walking in African American and Latino women through community design and social support.
