Dr. Pengyu Ren earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1999. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2005.
Ren’s research team uses a range of computational tools to study biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids. Supported by the National Institute of Health, Ren’s lab is currently developing software tools and physical models that allow accurate prediction of protein-ligand interactions. His research aims to improve the effectiveness of computer-aided lead screening, which in turn will greatly reduce the time, risk and cost of drug discovery. He is also interested in understanding molecular driving forces of the structure-function in proteins and nucleic acids, and the design of bio-mimetic materials and therapeutics.
Research Interests:
- Computational drug discovery
- Structure and function of protein-mimetics and biomaterials
- Multi-scale physical modeling of proteins and nucleic acids
