Dr. Gregory J. Rodin earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986, and joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin that same year. Dr. Rodin is affiliated with the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, The Center for Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Materials and the Texas Materials Institute.
Dr. Rodin uses computational models to study complex materials and structures. He seeks to understand relationships among properties of materials and structures at different scales, ranging from nanometers to kilometers. Rodin’s research applies to the design of electronic nano-scale devices and strong proteins for artificial tissues.
Research interests:
- Mechanics of single protein molecules
- Mechanics of lattice structures
- Hierarchical models
