Dr. Kamy Sepehrnoori earned his Ph.D. in petroleum engineering at The
University of Texas at Austin in 1977. He joined the faculty of the
university in 1981. He is the deputy director of the
Center for
Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering.
Dr. Sepehrnoori specializes in computational methods. His research
focuses on developing reservoir simulators for hydrocarbon recovery
processes. For the last several years his research program has been
working to develop a reservoir simulator called General Purpose Adaptive
Simulator (GPAS). GPAS can model the injection of water, miscible gas
and chemicals into conventional and naturally-fractured reservoirs to
improve the recovery processes. He has also been working on a framework
to aid engineers in reservoir simulation such as well placement,
recovery processes and history matching. Sepehrnoori’s computer
simulations use algorithms and software developed for high-performance
parallel computers.
Research interests:
- Reservoir simulation development and application
- Simulation of naturally fractured geological systems
- Computational methods
- Application of parallel processing in reservoir simulation
