Dr. Sanjay Srinivasan earned his Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from Stanford University in 1999. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2002. He directs the Improved Heavy Oil Recovery Research Program and is the program manager for the Integrated Reservoir Characterization Research program.

Dr. Srinivasan researches reservoir characterization and flow modeling. More specifically, he studies numerical modeling of fluid flow requiring quantitative descriptions of reservoir geology. Srinivasan is working on developing an improved method for quantifying geological information using a digital repository of reservoir models classified on the basis of reservoir depositional environments. These models will be used to develop geostatistical reservoir models of unknown reservoirs. Srinivasan is also developing innovative techniques for improved stochastic modeling of fracture networks (an important class of oil and gas reservoir) in porous media. His current research focuses on exploring new paradigms of multiple-point statistic reservoir modeling to accurately represent reservoir heterogeneity and extending them to integrate diverse types of data. In addition, Srinivasan works in the area of the scale up of heavy oil recovery processes and the design and development of novel thermal processes for improved heavy oil recovery.
