Dr. Sriram Vishwanath earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2003. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 2004. In 2005, he won a National Science Foundation Early Faculty Career Development (CAREER) award and received the Best Paper Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Joint Information Theory Society and Communication Society.
Dr. Vishwanath researches information theory, wireless communications and coding theory. Specifically, he is interested in information exchange, analysis, extraction and hiding. Vishwanath directs the Laboratory for Informatics, Networks and Communications (http://theseus.ece.utexas.edu/) where he and his students are working on building a comprehensive framework for developing algorithms that enable efficient networks and systems. The main applications of his research are in cellular systems, sensor and ad hoc networks and cognitive radios.
