Dr. Kristin Wood earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1989. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1989. He received a National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award in 1991.
Dr. Wood researches design innovation, advanced manufacturing processes, methods in product development and reverse engineering. Applications of his research include the development of unstaffed aerial vehicles, solid freeform fabrication, micro-electro-mechanical systems and flexible consumer products. Wood also designs teaching and learning methods for Kindergarten through graduate level students. He co-founded DTEACh, a continuing education course for public school teachers who teach engineering design concepts to schoolchildren.
Research interests:
- Innovation and associated theories, methods and tools
- Product design and development
- Advanced manufacturing processes
- Engineering design for K-12 students
