Enhancement of ASE 369K, Measurements and Instrumentation
K. Ravi-Chandar, Professor, Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics -- February 9, 2005
OVERVIEW: This is a required course for Aerospace Engineering undergraduates. This course provides an introduction to principles of experimental measurements and instruments. Students begin with an exploration of basic laboratory instruments and progress towards more advanced concepts such as sampling requirements, error estimation, and model generation. The course also provides a substantial technical writing experience to the students.
The apparatus in the laboratory had become significantly outdated and the students did not feel that they were learning in a modern laboratory setting. The ASE/EM Department provided funds for acquisition of new equipment for the lab, and Academic Development grant was instrumental in providing a Teaching Assistant for little over one semester. These together enabled a complete revamping of the laboratory. I will describe some of the modifications/innovations that were made to bring the laboratory experience to the digital era.
If you plan on attending please contact Terri Lavorgna or call the Academic Affairs Office at 471-7995 at least one day before the seminar.
