OVERVIEW: Knowing when to introduce our engineering students to computing isn’t easy. Some of our students need formal computer programming instruction while others are more proficient with high-end software tools. Dr. Tom Edgar of Chemical Engineering has extensive experience in academic computing and has proposed an integrated approach to computing for engineering students, which was presented as a distinguished lecture at the ASEE Annual Meeting last summer. He will share with us background information on computing experiences of undergraduates (using examples from various departments in the UT College of Engineering) and highlight survey findings of recent computing practices in industry. Come hear about the current status of engineering computer instruction and application and tell us your point of view.
