Creating Lab Courses That Students Want To Take
Dr. W. Mack Grady, Professor
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Glenn Lightsey, Associate
Professor
Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
DATE & TIME:
Wednesday, September 26th from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Large Conference Room
located on the 10th Floor of the ECJ Building.
Lunch will be provided for those who RSVP only. If

OVERVIEW: Providing our students engaging
laboratory experiences that connect to classroom theory is a fundamental need.
Yet creating and teaching these laboratories requires thoughtful planning and
execution. Two of our faculty are making headway with laboratory offerings. Dr.
Mack Grady in ECE’s Energy Systems recently converted a lecture-only course to a
combined lecture and lab as did Dr. Glenn Lightsey in ASE’s Orbital Mechanics.
Glenn is also involved in creating a “lab track” for students that want to have
an ongoing working relationship with a lab over several years while they are
getting their degree. Come hear about their experiences and the issues they
considered as they developed these new labs. You should leave this seminar with
a sense of what is involved in converting to a combined lecture and lab as well
as why these lab course are instrumental in helping our students think like
engineers.
