Committee Charge

The charge of the Co-op Committee is to review matters pertinent to the affairs of the Co-op program in the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Tasks, Deliverables, and Schedule:

  1. Make recommendations as needed or requested to the Director of the Co-op Program.
  2. Promote opportunities to incorporate the Co-op experience into engineering education and evaluate existing Co-op programs for their value to the university, the School, and engineering students.
  3. Determine the policy guidelines and requirements necessary to operate a meaningful, effective, and academically creditable Co-op Program
  4. Support the Co-op by the following: (a) provide both academic and career counseling; (b) provide advice, counsel and registration assistance for students on work tour; (c) develop report guidelines and grade the work tour and employer evaluation reports submitted by Co-op students for academic credit; (d) with the departments, assist in keeping prospective students informed about the Co-op Program; (e) visit Co-op students on their job sites as time and opportunity permit (usually in conjunction with other university business); and (f) assist the Co-op Program staff in identifying and acquiring appropriate Co-op employers.
  5. Prepare reports to the Dean of Engineering on matters as necessary throughout the year and submit a final report of activities no later than the end of the spring semester.

Membership

One faculty member from each department who is designated as the Co-op Advisor will be appointed to serve on this committee. The director of the Engineering Career Assistance Center and the coordinator of the Co-op Program will be ex-officio members.  The Associate Dean for Student Affairs will chair this committee.
