Campus Visits & Tours

A visit to campus is one of the best ways to learn about the university's academic programs, student services and community life. We encourage future students and their parents to register for an Engineering Information Session to learn more about the Cockrell School and the university.

Campus Visits

You can register for an official campus visit led by a freshman admissions counselor to give you the inside scoop on admissions, housing, financial aid and other important topics. Separate information sessions are held for both prospective and admitted students, followed by a student-led tour of campus.

Engineering Information Sessions

Information sessions for prospective freshmen (content is focused on those who have not already been admitted) are typically hosted on Fridays or Mondays from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. An academic advisor from Engineering Student Services (ESS) leads the sessions. Students and parents receive information about the different engineering degrees offered, as well as information about student services.

Register online to attend one of the sessions below. Please arrive at the scheduled location 15 minutes before your meeting. You may call ESS at 512-471-4321 for more information about the Engineering Information Session, or other general info about the Cockrell School.

Individual Department Meetings by Appointment

The following departments offer individual appointments:  Aerospace Engineering; Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering; Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering; and the Equal Opportunity in Engineering program.  Prospective chemical engineering students can request a meeting with a peer advisor by emailing visitmcketta@che.utexas.edu. Prospective electrical and computer engineering students can request a meeting with a peer ambassador by contacting ece-ambassador@utexas.edu at least one week in advance. Students are highly encouraged to attend an Engineering Information Session before scheduling an individual appointment with a department.  View department information

Prospective External Transfer Students

Students wishing to transfer to the Cockrell School of Engineering from another university can meet individually with an advisor in Engineering Student Services. Call 512-471-4321 to schedule an appointment. While prospective transfer students are also welcome to attend an Engineering Information Session, parts of the presentation are geared specifically towards prospective first-time college students. Read more information about the external transfer process.

High School Group Visits

Due to the volume of requests we receive, the Cockrell School of Engineering has limited capacity to schedule group visits. We encourage your group to attend our campus-wide open house, Explore UT, which is open to groups and individuals of all ages during the spring. Additionally, we welcome your group to join an Engineering Information Session, held most Fridays and some Mondays during the academic year and summer (see schedule above). If none of these options work for your group, please complete this form to provide information about your anticipated visit. Requests must be submitted at least two weeks in advance. Our ability to accommodate your request will depend on the time of year and availability of staff members.

Residence Hall Tours

Get an inside look at what it's like living on campus by touring one of the residence halls.  These tours are a chance to learn how the Division of Housing and Food Service provides positive living experiences through wellness programs, leadership opportunities and group learning.
